What it does

UltraPulse Alpha is Lumenis's highest-energy CO2 laser platform. Its DeepFX mode creates narrow, deep fractional columns that trigger collagen regeneration through the scar tissue, while its SCAAR FX mode penetrates up to 4 mm, suited to thick, contracted surgical, traumatic and burn scars. The treating physician here consults for Lumenis on UltraPulse Alpha and teaches its brush-scan technique for acne scars.

How it is planned here

Each scar is assessed individually for depth, thickness and tethering, with the mode, energy and density set scar by scar rather than uniformly across the face. Dense micro-ablation is combined with subcision, Rejuran or PDRN, and V-Beam is added where colour needs addressing.

What to expect

Expect pinpoint bleeding and swelling for two to three days, with redness lasting one to three weeks. Collagen remodelling continues for about six months, and thick scars typically need three to six sessions at two- to three-month intervals.

Questions

Is it safe on Asian skin?

Yes, with the settings and aftercare used here. Fractional delivery and conservative density limit the pigmentation risk.

Downtime?

About a week of visible recovery.

How is it different from UltraClear?

UltraClear is a cold fibre laser with less heat and less downtime, chosen for milder texture work; UltraPulse Alpha is chosen for depth.

Can acne scars really be improved?

Yes, markedly, though not to perfectly smooth skin. Depressed scars soften and shallow, and the surface evens, over a programme of several sessions. Results differ by scar type, which is why the plan starts with a scar-by-scar examination.

Why combination treatment rather than one laser?

Rolling scars are held down by fibres under the skin; ice-pick scars are narrow and deep; boxcar scars have sharp walls. Each needs a different tool, so one laser applied to everything gives a disappointing result. Subcision, CROSS, collagen injection and matched lasers are combined by scar shape.

How much downtime does scar treatment involve?

Subcision and injection sessions: swelling for three to five days. CO2 laser sessions: redness and fine scabbing for about a week. UltraClear is chosen when you cannot absorb a week of recovery.

I am only in Seoul for a week. Is it worth starting?

Yes. The first session, including subcision, can be done after consultation, and the next session is scheduled around your next visit; sessions are four to eight weeks apart anyway.

Is scar treatment VAT-exempt?

Treatment of a medical condition may be exempt from Korean VAT; cosmetic treatment carries 10%. The quote states which applies.
